n-compass is delighted that Carers' Hub Rochdale volunteer, Frank Goldrick, has been shortlisted for Volunteer of the Year at the Your Trust Rochdale Borough Active Awards.

The Awards recognises and celebrates those who have gone above and beyond over the past 12 months and work tirelessly to support individuals or community clubs, for the love of the sport or their community.

The Volunteer of the Award will be awarded to a volunteer or volunteer coach who demonstrates commitment to their role, goes the extra mile and benefits the wider community, and we believe that Frank fits that bill! Frank has volunteered for the Carers’ Hub, Rochdale, since 2019, after dropping in at a Carers Week event near his home. As a carer himself, Frank understood the importance of keeping active and how this could support carers both physically and mentally with their caring role. Frank is a qualified fitness instructor and offered to volunteer his time to show fellow carers simple ways to keep active.

Frank is so passionate and dedicated to support carers, and the people they care for, in their journeys to become more active. This has included hosting online "Walk-a-Mile Club" sessions during the pandemic, fitness in the park, a taster session during our Carers Week celebration event, and most recently Frank's Social Fitness Sessions - a mix low-level exercise with chat and health/nutrition advice, with carers enjoying fitness together as a supportive peer group.

Frank is also passionate about getting young people active , volunteering to run sessions at Rochdale Young Carer Groups, providing the right environment and words of encouragement to creating healthy fitness habits.

The award ceremony takes place on 7th November at Middleton Arena and we wish Frank all the best of luck for the evening.
