Irene is a 71 yr old lady, referred to n-compass by Adult Social Care following a Carers assessment. Irene cares for her husband, 74, who has dementia, Parkinson's and prostate cancer. At the initial call, Irene wasn't sure she needed our support; she had a good family network and felt she was managing okay. However, she did feel a little detached, and her focus was very much on her husband. Irene had a CPB and was hoping to use this soon.
During their conversation, Irene mentioned that she would like ideas to get out and about with her husband and reduce isolation. She also disclosed that she had a daughter at home with agoraphobia. We provided her with information on daycare services in their area, local mobility scooter centres for her husband, and Healthy Minds and the Samaritans for her daughter.
Irene's husband now happily attends a local daycare centre, which has reduced the pressure on her. She also now receives our quarterly newsletter and monthly timetable of events. Irene recognised that the support was helpful despite not realising she needed it or that it was available initially, and is now feeling much more optimistic.
